Soundcloud has multi-day RSS outage
Soundcloud had a multi-day outage serving audio files from RSS feeds over the weekend.
As reported on the Soundcloud status page, from April 30th, 2016 9:39 PM CET to May 2nd, 2016 5:10 PM CET no audio files in RSS feeds were being served, instead users would get a 403 (Access Forbidden) error. This meant that all podcasts hosted on Soundcloud (including The Bill Simmons Podcast, all shows on the Loud Speakers Network and the a16z podcast) would not play for new subscribers on any podcatching apps. Playback on Soundcloud (both the web and mobile apps) was reportedly unaffected.
As Marco Arment points out, be careful when choosing hosting providers - if podcasting is your business then make sure your provider is aligned with hosting podcasts.
SoundCloud: an audio platform, seeking the direct interaction of your listeners on *their* site, that happens to host podcasts on the side.— Marco Arment (@marcoarment) May 2, 2016
